Gear Ratios

Postby Jeff27 » Thu Jul 22, 2010 12:44 pm

I'm running a wet clutch with a gear reduction. Does anyone have information on a gear ratio conversion? :?: Any help is greatly appreciated - Jeff

Honda makes two gear ruductions a 6to 1 and 2to1. If your part of our group you probably have a 2to 1 .

Thanks - I'm part of your group, so 2 to 1 is probably it.

Just double the number of teeth on the rear sprocket, and divide that number by the front sprocket and that is your final drive (44 rear tooth X 2) / 11 front sprocket would equal 88/11 or 8:1
I would suggest a final drive below 5.5/1, but experiment with a Mychron and see what your top revs, min revs and how much time is spent in each rev range and then determine the best gearing, and confirm it with the stopwatch. Sounds easy...but it requires precision, objectivity and note taking, plus a MyChron and some gears and track time.
